Abstract:

The morphology and biology of 6 species of Heterarthrus feeding on Acer spp. are discussed in detail. The biology of H. leucomelus feeding on A. campestre and A. pseudoplatanus in Austria and Hungary is described. H. aceris feeds on A. pseudoplatanus in Austria and is entirely parthenogenetic. H. imbrosensis is described from A. sempervirens in Crete, Greece, and H. healyi nom. n. from A. campestre in Austria and France. Larvae of H. cuneifrons sp. n. feed only on A. pseudoplatanus and are described, together with the male and female, from specimens collected in Austria and Hungary. H. flavicollis is also described and keys to the males and females of this group are included.
