Abstract:

The P4 of the upper jaw is discussed morphometrically. Richter's P4 landmark (position of the protoconus), which can be utilized for differentiating species, can be variable. Such variations were detected in Crocidura russula ichnusae from Sardinia Italy, C. russula and C. cicula from Sicily, C. suaveolens from 2 Aegean islands, and C. cypria from Cyprus. There is no cause for considering Richter's landmark invalid. Good possibilities for differentiating length and width measurements and their correlation exist for the P4.
