Abstract:

Development and growth patterns L. piscatorius and L. budegassa Spinola otoliths were examined. Considering the otolith development in relation to their shape at the 2 extremities and their natural position, L. piscatorius otoliths grow faster towards the pointed rim while those of L. budegassa grow faster towards the curved rim. Since the pointed rim of the former species and the curved rim of the latter one face anteriorly, the rapidity of otolith growth in both species is significantly higher towards the anterior end.
