Abstract:

Eustimaeus johnstoni sp. n. (Acari: Stigmacidae) is described from several species of phlebotomine sandflies (Diptera: Psychodidae) in tropical areas. Adult females of this species were found on Phlebotemus papatasi (Scopoli), Sergentomyia magna (Sinton) and Sergentomyia dreyfussi (Parrot) in Yemen, on P. papatasi, Sergentomyia africana Newstead and an undetermined species of Sergentomyia in Saudi Arabia, on P. papatasi in Cyprus, Israel, and Pakistan, and on Phlebotomus longicuspis Nitzulescu in Tunisia. Both males and females of sandfly hosts were parasitized. The new species is eyeless and is separated from other eyeless species of Eustigmaeus in an artificial key.
