Abstract:

Biometric data (wing length, tail length, 3 bill measurements, tarsal length and weight) of 59 .male..male. and 55 .female..female. of Cory's shearwater from Linosa (Pelagic Isles, Sicily) are discussed. A comparison between these data and published data fron the Aegean Sea and the Atlantic (C. d. borealis) reveals that biometrics from Linosa show significant differences in bill length compared to the Aegean population and only in weight compared to the Atlantic subspecies; C. d. borealis and the Aegean population show many significant differences. A clinal variation probably occurs from the eastern Mediterranean populations (smaller birds) to the Atlantic (larger birds). Biometrics of eggs are given and compared with data from Zembra (Tunisia) and Selvage Isles (Atlantic).
